Our fabric

Main features

VIRKILL is a technical fabric with copper particles, particularly suitable for use in clothing and accessories due to its great breathability.

In fact, it is tested according to the UNI EN ISO 11092: 2014 standard for the determination of the breathability of a fabric through evaporative resistance (RET – Resistance to Evaporative Heat Transfer). Test results confirmed VIRKILL’s high breathability.

The material of which it is made, also makes it compatible with skin contact. This is demonstrated by the fact that VIRKILL has passed the patch test resulting “Dermatologically tested, suitable for subjects with sensitive skin”.

VIRKILL has a high resistance to both water and dry washing, thus contributing to the extension of the useful life of the garment with a view on sustainability.

The fabric can be dyed in different colours and jacquard fabric can be created, customizable with any logo or design requested by the customer, even over the entire height of the fabric.

This product is treated with a biocide (copper) but has no primary biocide function and does not replace the ordinary prevention rules for bacterial or viral infections.

Furthermore, it is not a medical-surgical device.

In addition to the main characteristics that distinguish VIRKILL, the addition of copper particles inside the yarn helps to preserve the surface of the fabric from the contamination of micro-organisms, such as viruses and bacteria, as demonstrated by the ISO 18184: 2019 tests for the determination of its antiviral activity against the SARS-CoV-2 virus and UNI EN ISO 20743: 2013 for the determination of its antibacterial activity. The fabric does not protect the person using it or other people from viruses or bacteria, but its properties serve to preserve the product itself.

Health benefits of copper

The ancient Greeks were the first to discover the sanitizing power of copper thousands of years ago. Since then, copper has been used as a biocide by Celts, Hindus, American pioneers, and Japanese, as well as by inhabitants of Africa and Asia, for treating sores and skin diseases.

Today, soluble copper compounds are used as bactericides in paints to render surfaces self-disinfecting, on ship hulls to decrease friction by reducing barnacle accumulation and microbial biofilm formation, in hospital water pumps to control Legionella in water distribution systems, and in agriculture as an algaecide, fungicide or molluscicide.

Copper has also been shown to inactivate a variety of enveloped and nonenveloped viruses, such as bacteriophages, bronchitis virus, poliovirus, herpes simplex virus and HIV-1.

Breathable

VIRKILL is tested according to UNI EN ISO 11092:2014 International Standard for the determination of the breathability of a fabric through the “Resistance to Evaporative Heat Transfer” (RET). Test results have certified RET values between 5 m2Pa/W and 6 m2Pa/W, values that indicate an extremely breathable fabric, comfortable during intense activity.

Dermatologically tested

VIRKILL has passed the patch test for the assessment of dermal compatibility (irritant potential) with skin contact, resulting “Dermatologically tested, suitable for subjects with sensitive skin”.

Washing resistance

Copper particles are incorporated inside the polymer that is used to produce the yarn, from which the fabric is made. This feature, which is completely different from a simple surface finishing, allows them to remain in the fabric even after more than 100 washes.

Hypoallergenic

VIRKILL has passed the skin sensitization test for the assessment of the sensitizing potential resulting “non-sensitizing”, thus minimizing the risk of allergies. It does not show any stimulating potential on the immune cellular response mediated by monocytes/macrophages.

Anti-dust mite

VIRKILL is tested according to the French standard NF G39-011 for the determination of the acaricidal efficacy of a textile against house dust mites. Test results show 63% average inhibition of a mite population (Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus) over a period of 6 weeks.

ISO 18184:2019

VIRKILL is tested according to ISO 18184:2019 for the determination of its antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 virus (responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic): test has certified that the Mv value (antiviral activity) is equal to 3.25, corresponding to an inactivation of virus over 99.9% .

ISO 20743:2013

VIRKILL is tested according to UNI EN ISO 20743: 2013 International Standard for the determination of its antibacterial activity: test has certified an exceptional antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative bacteria (antibacterial activity A > > 7.0 against Klebsiella pneumoniae, bacterial reduction over 99.9%) and Gram-positive bacteria (antibacterial activity A > > 6.6 against Staphylococcus aureus, bacterial reduction over 99.9%).
